Island Insider covers the people who run Gulf Shores and Orange Beach: the mayors, the city councils and the planning commissions. We report what passed, what failed, what is coming up, and who is behind the projects that change the island.
How we report
- Every factual claim links to its source: minutes, agendas, meeting recordings, city documents or published news reports.
- When a record is missing or we could not confirm something, we say so instead of guessing.
- We report connections we can document, such as votes, contracts, property and campaign records, and we let readers draw their own conclusions.
- We put questions to the record in print. When the answers come back, we publish them.
Who writes it
Articles are published under the name Silas Dogood.
Silas Dogood takes his name from Silence Dogood, the pen name a 16-year-old Ben Franklin used in 1722 to needle Boston's powerful from behind a byline nobody could trace.
