Monday's Nov. 2 meeting was a non-voting work session, so the real action comes Nov. 9. Here's what's on the table, plus a roundabout deal with Orange Beach and election night results.

Monday is the vote

On the list for Nov. 9: a new impact fee schedule that would charge a new single-family home from $4,831 to $15,326 depending on size, a city takeover of the Sports Center, a budget amendment and a fiber franchise for Gigapower (Gulf Coast Media).

The council will also consider a two-year partnership that keeps the Fat Tuesday parade rolling. The city would lead in 2027 with the new Krewes & Commerce Parade Alliance assisting, and the krewe would take the lead in 2028 with city support (FOX10). Details are in our Scorecard.

With Orange Beach: who answers calls at the new roundabout

Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are working on an agreement that spells out which city has jurisdiction at the new roundabout north of the Intracoastal Waterway, at State Route 161 and the Alabama Beaches Parkway. Police from both cities already back each other up there (OBA). Two cities settling a boundary question before it becomes a problem is how it should work.

Election night

Sen. Chris Elliott won re-election in Senate District 32 with 71% of the vote over Gulf Shores Democrat Janet Appleby, according to unofficial results. Statewide, Jim Zeigler won the Public Service Commission Place 2 seat (Gulf Coast Media).

  • Tue., Nov. 17: Planning Commission.
  • Thu., Nov. 19: Coffee & Convos with the city, an open conversation for residents and business owners (City of Gulf Shores).
